Leopards Homer 3 Times, Dominant in Mingo Bay Classic Opener – Baseball

Louisville 14, Cincinnati Western Hills 3, 5 Innings

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team dominated the Cincinnati Western Hills Mustangs 14-3 in 5 innings in their Mingo Bay Classic Opener at Socastee Field in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. With the victory, Louisville remains unbeaten on the young season with a mark of 2-0.

Davis Burick, Austin Cummings, and Broc Pickens all homered in a span of two innings as the Leopards built a 14-0 lead through three innings. Burick crushed a solo shot off the roof of a building well beyond the left field fence to begin a 6-run second inning. Three batters later, Cummings belted a 2-run shot over the same left field wall to put Louisville ahead 9-0. Broc Pickens later followed suit with a 2-run dinger to left to rip open a 14-0 Leopards lead with no one out in the bottom of the third.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdCummings led the Leopards offense going 2-for-2 at the plate with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Cummings smashed a 2-run double scoring Caleb Prasco and Cam Lingle as part of a 6 run first inning. Louisville matched that total with 6 more runs in the second inning including 3 with two outs. Dom Mongiardo singled home Max Hartline to put double digits on the board. Then Tyler Jackson hit a 2-run single to bring home Mongiardo and Justin Blyer to make it 12-0 in favor of the blue and white.

On the hill, Starter Andrew Gray (1-0) earned the Leopard victory pitching the first two inning without giving up a run or hit and striking out 5. Pickens worked the next two hitless frames only surrendering an unearned run and matching Gray with 5 strikeouts. 

E. Berry recorded a pinch-hit RBI double to score K. Diarra and J. Pittman drove him home for a pair of Western Hills runs in the fifth inning. The Mustangs only other run came an inning before when Pittman reached base on an error and then also scored via an error.
