Lady Leopards Start and Finish Strong in Opener Against the Trailblazers – Girls Basketball

Louisville 60, Cincinnati Trailblazers 39

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team opened up the 2018-19 season with a 60-39 victory over the Cincinnati Trailblazers at the Bulldog Battle II held at Canton Memorial Fieldhouse Friday Afternoon.

Erin Hahn scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Leopards. She also recorded a game-high 4 steals and also had 3 assists. Paige Cole and Kayla Gibson also both scored 14 points, shared the team lead in rebounds with 4 a piece, and each registered 3 assists. Maggie Galentine also dished out a game-leading 4 assists.

Louisville catapulted into the new season by taking a 20-4 advantage after the first quarter. The Trailblazers, a varsity squad of homeschool players from Cincinnati, rallied back to cut the Leopard lead to just 35-33 at the end of three periods. Louisville turned it back on to dominate the fourth quarter outscoring the Trailblazers 25-6 to earn a 21-point victory.

Anne Wheeler led the Trailblazers with game-highs of 18 points and 6 rebounds. Wheeler also rounded out her stat line with 3 assists and 3 steals. Sierra Hall also scored 14 points and recorded 3 rebounds for Cincinnati.

The Leopards out-shot the Trailblazers 52% (25 of 48) to 35% (14 of 40) from the field for the game. Louisville also held a 21-15 advantage on the glass and generated 14 steals on defense.

This was the first ever meeting between the two schools.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next take on the Akron Buchtel Griffins in the Bulldog Battle II on Saturday, November 23. JV will take on the Griffins at 11:00 AM at the Canton McKinley Main Campus Auxilary Gym and Varsity will take on Akron Buchtel to open up the second day of action at 12:30 PM at the Canton Memorial Fieldhouse.
