Leopards Storm Past Alumni in Second Half 7-4 – Boys Soccer

Louisville 7, Alumni 4
The Louisville Leopards Boys Soccer Program held their annual Alumni Game Saturday at Louisville Leopards Stadium. After playing to a 2-2 halftime tie, the 2017 Leopards stormed past the Alumni in the second half to take the match 7-4. Louisville is now 6-1 in the preseason with the win.
Bailey Adams scored 4 goals and had an assist to lead the Leopards Varsity. Adams scored the opening goal 12 minutes into the contest to give LHS the early advantage.
The Alumni Squad answered back with a pair of first half goals to reclaim the lead. Cody Gotshall hit home a penalty kick in the 17th minute to knot the game at 1-1. Then Micah Storlie found the back of the net off a pass from Abdul Khalid in the 26th minute.
In the final 35th minute of the opening first half, Adams intercepted an Alumni pass 11 yards outside the box. He weaved through the Alumni defense and rifled a shot into the left side of the net to tie the game back up at 2-2.

The Alumni scored first in the second half when Khalid connected with Kobie Shepard on a long pass in the 42nd minute. Kicking right to left, Shepard scored after the ball deflected off the outstretched hands of the goalie. That gave the Alumni their final lead of the day at 3-2.
It did not last long either, as the Alumni turned the ball over to Hunter Foley on their own end less than 2 minutes later. With the goalie playing up, Foley placed the ball into the center of the net for the easy score. This kicked off a run of four consecutive goals by the 2017 Leopards.
Adams was unkind to his elders in dazzling his way toward the net. He made several defenders miss before centering the ball to Bradley Terra who banged home the go-ahead score. The pair also worked in tandem for the next goal. Terra blocked a wild Alumni shot and Adams took it coast to coast to give him a hat trick.
Adams added his fourth goal minutes later when he broke wide open. Foley delivered the pass and Adams did the rest to put LHS ahead 6-3. The 2016 NBC Player of the Year has now racked up 16 goals in 7 preseason games to begin his Senior campaign.
Coach Henkel granted the Alumni a few extra minutes to make a run at the Varsity squad. Storlie, who graduated with last year’s NBC Championship team, would net his second goal of the contest in the 72nd minute. However, Foley would return the favor with his second goal of the game for the Leopards Varsity on the final play of the game to make it 7-4.
The Alumni Team featured players from the most recent NBC Champion 2016 squad all the way back to Aaron Wiseman 11 years removed from his record-breaking Senior season in 2006. Louisville Varsity now leads the all-time series 3-1-1 over the Alumni team with this being their second consecutive win in the annual affair. The Alumni have not won since the first Alumni Game in 2013.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Northwest Indians in a scrimmage on Tuesday, August 8 at 7:00 PM.
