Leopards Neutralize Northwest 5-2 – Baseball
Louisville 5, Northwest 2
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team defeated the host Northwest Indians 5-2 Saturday Afternoon. With the victory, Louisville improves to 6-2 on the year.
The Leopards trailed early, but rallied with a pair of runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Davis Burick singled in Bryce Zuppe to tie the game. Two at-bats later, Dillon Rebuck reached on an error driving home Cam King from third.
Northwest knotted the game back up in the fifth. Nick Smith reached base on an error and stole second. Ayden Burgner singled him home after that to knot it at 2-2.
Max Hartline and Rebuck both walked to start the sixth. After two outs were recorded, Austin Cummings drove home what proved to be the winning run in Rebuck on an infield single to the shortstop.
The Leopards tacked on to their total in the seventh when Rebuck hit a 2-run double that brought home Burick and Hartline to put LHS ahead 5-2. Rebuck drove in 3 of Louisville’s 5 runs for the game. Hartline also finished 2-for-2 at the plate.
Starter Tyler Jackson pitched the first four innings, gave up just 1 earned run on 4 hits, and struck out 3. Andrew Gray closed out the final three innings without allowing a hit and striking out 2 to earn the decision. Gray is now 4-0 on the season.
This was the Leopards first trip to Northwest since the 2011 season with both schools were still members of the Northeastern Buckeye Conference.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next host the Canton McKinley Bulldogs on Monday, April 8 at 5:00 PM. JV and Freshman will be on the road at Canton McKinley at the same time.
