Leopards Erupt in Late Innings to Down Dukes 11-3 – Baseball
Louisville 11, Marlington 3
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team earned a convincing 11-3 road victory over the host Marlington Dukes at Little Wrigley Field Tuesday Evening. With the victory, Louisville ups their record to 14-4 on the season.
Cam Lingle batted 3-for-4 with a 3-run homer, 2 doubles, and 5 runs batted in to lead the Leopards. Dillon Rebuck also went 3-for-4 and scored 3 runs and Davis Burick hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth for Louisville.
An error allowed the Dukes to snag the early lead in the bottom of the first, but they returned the favor in the top of the third. Dom Mongiardo singled to start the inning, advanced to third after a pair of groundouts, and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one.
The Leopards used back-to-back hits in the fourth inning to take the lead 2-1. Rebuck singled to left and was doubled home by Lingle on the next pitch. But Louisville kept the gift exchange with their former NBC rival going with another error in the bottom of the inning. Anthony Sabatino hit a 2-out double and then came home for Marlington when Connor Evanich reached on an error to tie the game at 2-2.
The Leopards erupted for 7 runs over the final three innings to take an 11-2 advantage. Caleb Prasco singled in Bryce Zuppe to put LHS ahead 3-2. Then Lingle doubled home Rebuck again to put Louisville up 4-2 in the top of the fifth.
The Leopards used the long ball to rip the game open after that. Burick hit his third home run of the season on a 2-run shot to center in the sixth. Lingle cracked his second round tripper of the year on a 3-run blast to center in the seventh.
Louisville added a pair of runs to their total with two outs in the seventh. Broc Pickens was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a passed ball. Austin Cummings recorded a pinch hit RBI double to bring home Burick to make it 11-2.
On the mound, Starter Jordan Shearer pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up one earned run on 7 hits, and struck out 9 to improve to 6-1 on he season.
