Louisville Completes Perfect 7-0 NBC Run at Canton South – Wrestling
Louisville 61, Canton South 15
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Wrestling Team completed their perfect run through the NBC with a 61-15 victory over the host Canton South Wildcats Thursday Night at Canton South High School. With the victory, Louisville finishes with an overall record of 10-4 and earns their first ever outright NBC Title with an undefeated league mark of 7-0.
The Leopards won by pin in half of the matches on the night en rout to claiming 11 of the 14 matches overall. Garett Lautzenheiser (106), Ryan Jakubiak (120), Davin Rhoads (126), Logan Vanicek (132), Daniel Kennedy (145), Brent Paulus (182), and Blake Robbins (220) all won by fall to lead Louisville.
The Leopards built a 39-0 lead to bury the Wildcats. The only competitive match during their opening run came in the 138 matchup. Carter Mickley edged out a 3-2 decision to keep Canton South scoreless. The Wildcats would not get on the scoreboard until Louisville surrendered a forfeit in the 152 weight class.
Jax Leonard (160) also earned a 17-5 major decision for the Leopards. Louisville was the beneficiary of two forfeits as well.
This is the first time the Leopards have won the NBC Outright and the first time they have ever completed an undefeated run through NBC competition. Louisville shared the 1995 NBC Title with Canton South and the 1997 NBC Crown with Akron Springfield. They have won 5 Wrestling League Titles in their history. They also won the Tri-County League in 1967 and the Federal League seven years later in 1974.
