Leopards Scratch and Claw to Win Over Wildcats – Baseball

Corey White Louisville Leopards Baseball Vs. Marlington Dukes 2017

Louisville 3, Canton South 1

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team earned a 3-1 road victory against the host Canton South Wildcats at Tim Miller Field Tuesday Evening. With Beatty's Sports Winter 2017the win, Louisville ups their overall mark to 9-5 and improves their league record to 4-2.

Starter Carson Davis pitched 5 innings, gave up just 1 earned run on 6 hits, and struck out 8 to lead the Leopards. Davis is now 3-1 on the season, with all three victories coming against NBC foes. He was relieved by Nate Mongiardo who retired the Wildcats in order in the sixth and fanned three straight Canton South batters in the seventh. Mongiardo is a perfect 4 for 4 in save situations this season.

Tyler Adams continued to be a menace on the base paths and wasted no time in getting Louisville the early first inning lead. Adams was hit by a pitch, stole second and third, and then came home via Corey White’s ground out to short.

The Wildcats knotted the game in the bottom of the second. Robbie Akers cracked a 1 out double to start the rally. Then Beau Robbins singled to center scoring Akers Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio Adfrom second. Akers would lead Canton South at the plate batting 2 for 3 on the evening.

Akers also pitched a complete game on the mound for the Wildcats, gave up just 1 earned run on 2 hits, and struck out 6 Leopards. Brody Hahn had both of the hits for Louisville.

Yet it was those same scrappy Leopards who pushed across two unearned runs to take the contest. Louisville took the lead in the third inning. With 1 out, Adams reached base on an infield error and advanced to second base on a passed ball. Then, Casey Nau also reached base on an infield error which allowed Adams to score the go-ahead run from second.

The Leopards added to their lead in the fifth to pull ahead 3-1. Adams was hit by a pitch and Nau walked to start the frame. Adams was picked off on the base paths, but Nau was able to advance to second base as a result. Hahn stepped in next and singled to short. Nau came home on the same play after Canton South committed their fourth of five errors in the game.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Canton South Wildcats on Thursday, April 20 at 5:00 PM. JV will be on the road at Canton South at the same time.
