Louisville Earns Opening Round Tournament Win at Canfield – Boys Lacrosse

The 16th Seed Louisville Leopards defeated the host 15th Seed Canfield Cardinals 10-7 in the Opening Round of the Division II, Region 6 Boys Lacrosse Tournament Saturday Night at Bob Dove Field. With the victory, Louisville improves to 5-7 on the season and advances to the second round to play the 2nd Seed Chagrin Falls Tigers on Tuesday.

Braden Thomas recorded a Hat Trick to lead the Leopards. Thomas scored back-to-back goals to end the third period and give Louisville an 8-7 lead. The Leopards sealed the game in the fourth quarter when Austin Terra and Zack Burkhardt each scored their second goal of the game. The Louisville defensive shutdown Canfield during the final period as well to take the game 10-7.

The Leopards dominated the game early in pulling out to a 5-2 advantage at the end of the opening period. Five different Louisville players found the net in the first quarter which included Burkhardt, Sean McKinney, Terra, Nate Hostetler, and Jordan Mack in sequential order.

The Cardinals chipped away at the Leopards lead drawing to within 6-5 at halftime. Canfield opened the second half with a pair of goals to take a 7-6 lead. But Louisville scored 4 unanswered goals to end the game and move on to the second round of the tournament. The Cardinals finish their season with a record of 8-7.

The Leopards are now 5-2 all-time in tournament play, which includes a 3-0 record in tournament openers and a 2-1 record in tournament games played on the road. Louisville is now 2-0 all-time against Canfield with their only other win being a 14-2 home victory over the Cardinals in the Inaugural Leopards Lacrosse Game in 2015.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Chagrin Falls to take on the 2nd Seed Tigers on Tuesday, May 16 at 7:00 PM in the 2nd Round of the Division II, Region 6 Boys Lacrosse Tournament.
