Leopards Rally in the 7th to Force Scrimmage Tie at Alliance – Baseball
Louisville 6, Alliance 6
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team rallied with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to force a 6-6 tie with the host Alliance Aviators in a scrimmage Tuesday Evening at Craven Field. With the draw, Louisville is now 0-1-1 on the preseason.
Trailing 6-4, Carter Rode and Andrew Figler drew back-to-back walks to begin the top of the seventh. After a pop out, a passed ball advanced the runners into scoring position. Davis Burick came to the plate next and drove the ball to right field to bring home Rode from third on a sac fly. Figler also advanced to third on the play and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 6-6.
Leopards pitcher Jake Bevere retired 3 of the 4 Alliance batters in the bottom of the seventh including striking out the final two to preserve the tie. Starter Jordan Shearer pitched the first three innings, gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits, and struck out 4 and Grayson Beamer took the hill for the middle innings giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit while fanning a batter.
Louisville trailed at the outset after Alliance scored three runs in the bottom of the first. The Leopards chipped into the deficit in the third when Austin Cummings singled to center scoring Cam Lingle from second. Louisville knotted the game up in the fourth inning. Burick hit a line drive single to left scoring courtesy runner Justin Blyer from second. Then Caleb Prasco cracked a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Lingle from third to make it 3-3.
Alliance reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the fourth, but a successful double steal by the Leopards re-knotted the game at 4-4. Jonah Harsh drew a walk after running the count full. He advanced to second on a groundout and then to third on a single by Blyer. In the next at-bat, Blyer stole second and Harsh came to the plate via a seal of home.
