Louisville Hands State-Ranked Canton South Their 1st NBC Loss
Louisville 4, Canton South 2
Pavin Parks pitched the entire contest, gave up just 1 earned run, and struck out 4 to lead Louisville to a 4-2 win over #5 DII State-Ranked visiting Canton South on a rainy Thursday evening. The loss is the Wildcats first in the NBC after a perfect run through the first half of the schedule.
The Leopards got on the board first when Stephen Kerzan doubled home Alex Hollifield in the bottom of the second. The smash was Louisville’s first hit of the contest after Hollifield and Jordan Hughes reached base via walks.
The Wildcats tied the game up in the top of the third, but the Leopards would answer back with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hollifield walked again to start the inning. Then Hughes laid down a bunt single and a fielding error allowed Hollifield to score from first and Hughes to advance to second. Kerzan sacrificed Hughes to third after that and then Jeremy McQuilkin reached base via a squeeze bunt allowing Hughes to reach home. 3-1 Leopards.
Louisville added an insurance run in the sixth inning. Kerzan reached base via an infield single and advanced to second on a passed ball. McQuilkin then sacrificed Kerzan to third and two pitches later the Freshman first baseman scored on a another passed ball.
Canton South would score a run in the seventh, but it would not be enough as Louisville won 4-2.
With the victory, Parks is now a perfect 4-0 on the hill this season and the Leopards improve to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the NBC. The Wildcats are now 12-2 on the season and fall to 7-1 in conference play. Louisville has now taken 2 out of the last 3 meetings with Canton South overall.
