Louisville Defeats Defending Champion Alliance – Boys Basketball

Chris Libertore 2015-16 Basketball Highlights Louisville Leopards

Louisville 65, Alliance 55

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball team downed the host Alliance Aviators 65-55 Friday Beatty's Sports Louisville Leopards Basketball 2016-17 HoodieNight at Harry Fails Gymnasium. With the victory, Louisville improves to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the NBC.

After a crushing home defeat against Marlington on Tuesday, the Leopards bounced back in a big way by knocking off Defending NBC Champion Alliance in their own house. Chris Libertore continued to scorch the nets by scoring a game-high 34 points to lead Louisville. Brandon Wahl also dropped in 12 and Bryce Zuppe scored 8.

The Leopards surrendered an early 19-13 lead at the end of the first, but outscored the Aviators 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 27-23 lead into the break. Louisville never looked back as they extended their lead to double digits by the end of the third quarter at 45-34.

Libertore shot all of the Leopards free throws in the final period making 7 of his 10 attempts to help seal the game. He would make 13 out of 16 total for the game as the Leopards shot 70% (14 of 20) from the line as a team. This was a stark contrast to Alliance who shot just 42% (8 of 19) from the charity stride.

Sarrick Sampson scored a team-high 20 points and DJ Hancock poured in 19 to lead the Aviators. Hancock made all of Alliance’s 3 three-pointers during the game. DeMarko Books also added 8 points for AHS who falls to an even 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the NBC.

With the victory, the Leopards have now won 3 out of their last 5 against the Aviators which includes 2 out of the last 3 at Alliance. The Aviators still lead the all-time series 42-17 according to our records dating back to 1928.

After the game Louisville Head Coach Tom Siegfried declared December 23 Leopards Basketball Day. Along with the success of Friday’s game, Louisville also won in Alliance a year ago across the street at Mount Union. The Leopards used a 16-point second half comeback to stun the St. Ignatius Wildcats 67-65 in that Alliance Christmas Classic Game.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Austintown Fitch to take on the Falcons on Tuesday, December 27. JV will begin at 5:30 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM.
