Louisville at West Branch 1993 Football Highlights
Louisville 14, West Branch 12
Louisville’s defense knocked West Branch’s Josh Purdy out of bounds on the potential game-tying two-point conversion attempt with just nine seconds remaining in the contest to earn a 14-12 road victory on October 29, 1993.
In a battle of 8-0 teams, the Warriors struck first on a first quarter touchdown run by Purdy. After a failed extra point it was 6-0 West Branch.
The Leopards answered back in the second quarter when they started a drive from the Warriors 23. A 12 yard West Branch punt set Louisville up with the great field position. After a few plays and a penalty, Fullback Chris Menegay burst ahead for 10 yards and then Quarterback Ryan Crislip hit Runningback Dan Wilson for a 17 yard touchdown pass. Bob Burick’s extra point put Louisville ahead 7-6 and they would take that lead into halftime.
The Leopards were penalized over 100 yards in the contest which cost them other chances to score. But with four minutes left in the third quarter Wilson broke free for a 56 yard touchdown run to put Louisville up 14-6.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors drove deep into Leopards territory but Ryan Crislip intercepted a pass by Quarterback Jeff Morris at the Louisville 16 yard line with 3:25 remaining. After the Leopards possession and a punt, the Warriors got the ball back with just 1:40 remaining. Five plays later Morris hit Turick for a 35 yard touchdown pass with just 0:09 remaining to cut the lead to 14-12. Louisville’s defense did the rest.
