The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish 54-45 Friday night at LeBron James Arena. Louisville has now dropped five straight and sits at 8-12 heading into this weekend’s tournament draw.

Sanders Scores Game-High 22 to Lead Leopards

Brandon Sanders scored 14 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, all from the field, to lead the Leopards. He was the only Louisville player to score in the opening quarter as LHS fell behind 15-6. However, Sanders scored 8 points in the second quarter to help the Leopards trim the deficit to 25-23 by halftime. Sanders finished with 10 field goals overall.

Blake Carr also made a three-pointer and Max Mathie made a basket for Louisville’s other points from the floor during the second quarter.


Rogers Finishes with 16 After Strong Second Half

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdCohen Rogers was held to just four points — all from the free-throw line — in the first half, before scoring 12 points to lead the Leopards in the second half. He hit a pair of three-pointers as part of his 8-point fourth quarter. Rogers finished with 16.

Drake Wilson added a third-quarter basket to round out Louisville’s scoring.


Hill and Prince Score Team-High 15 Each for Irish

West Main Vet Clinic AdCaleb Hill and DeCarlo Prince each scored a team-high 15 points to lead St. Vincent-St. Mary. Prince made a pair of three-pointers and scored 9 in the opening half before adding 6 more in the third quarter. Caleb Hill also made a pair of three-pointers and erupted for 9 points in the third quarter as the Fighting Irish took control of the game by outscoring the Leopards 20-8 in the period.

Leigh Cotton scored 3 of his 8 points in the fourth quarter to help St. Vincent-St. Mary put the game away. Aiden Reynolds also scored 7 points all in the first three quarters of action. Other scorers for the Fighting Irish included Ascen Lomack with 6, Elijah Chapman with 3, and Terek Harris with 1.

St. Vincent-St. Mary has alternated wins and losses over its last seven contests and now sits at 11-9 heading into the tournament draw.


Louisville Vs. St. Vincent-St. Mary Basketball Series

The Leopards defeated the Fighting Irish 61-46 at LHS last season. St. Vincent-St. Mary dominated their only other meeting 61-21 in the DII Canton Regional Final at the Canton Civic Center back in 2022.

There are two other notable recorded Louisville basketball games prior to the St. Vincent and St. Mary merger. The Louisville Blue Raiders also fell to Akron St. Vincent’s 24-21 in a double overtime District Tournament game held at Akron Goodyear Gym on March 7, 1934. The Blue Raiders also dropped a 39-29 sectional tournament game at Kent on March 2, 1928 after defeating Troy 25-14 on that same Friday.
