Louisville at Springfield 1999 Football Highlights

Louisville Leopards Vs. Springfield Spartans 1999 Football

Louisville 26, Springfield 6

Louisville broke a 6-6 tie by scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter to stun host Springfield 26-6 on October 8, 1999.

The Leopards out-gained the Spartans 343-149 and had more first downs for the game by a count of 19-Beatty's Sports Grey Polo Ad5. However, Springfield stayed in the contest by holding Louisville to two Nathan DeGasperis field goals (27, 35) and stopping the Leopards at the Spartan 1 on 4th-and-Goal in the first half.

A Mark Huddleston 30 yard dash tied the game at 6-6 in with 3:56 left in the third quarter and that looked to give the Spartans momentum. But a Louisville sack on the conversion try kept the game knotted.

Less than 60 seconds into the fourth quarter, Vic McGoye scored on a 27 yard wide receiver reverse to give the Leopards a 13-6 lead. McGoye finished the evening with 4 catches for 44 yards as well as 44 yards on the ground.

On the ensuing kickoff, Springfield fumbled and Louisville recovered at the Spartan 23 yard line. With the shortened field, the Leopards punched the ball in from 9 yards out on a Jon Herbert touchdown run with 9:19 remaining in the fourth.

After that, Louisville shutdown Springfield on defense and the Leopards put together an impressive drive to put the final nail in the coffin. Runningback Jason Farkas scored from 3 yards out with 2:16 remaining to put Louisville ahead 26-6. Farkas finished the evening with 18 carries for 123 yards.

T.J. Barnes also rushed the ball 10 times for 46 yards for Louisville who racked up 256 yards on the ground. The victory improved the Leopards to 6-1 on the season overall and 4-0 in the NBC.
