Barwick Scores Game High 20 to Lead Louisville

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdCourtney Barwick scored 14 of her game high 20 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards. Trailing 48-44 late, she scored back-to-back layups to knot the game at 48-48 with 41 seconds remaining. Ella Tillett stole a pass on defense on the other end between those Barwick buckets.

Crestwood answered back on the other end by earning a trip to the line. A pair of passes led to a foul on a layup attempt and two shots from the line. Abby Guyette made both attempts to put the Red Devils in front 50-48 with 32.5 seconds remaining.

Late-Game Calls Lead to Leopard Demise

Romeo's Pizza Louisville, Ohio AdLouisville’s offense got two more cracks at erasing the deficit in the final half minute. On their first possession, a questionable double dribble was called after a Crestwood defender tapped the ball away. The Red Devils gifted the ball right back to the Leopards with an errant pass down court. Mabel Kiko deflected the pass into the hands of Maggie Baker.

The Leopards started to run a play, but Head Coach Dan Moody called a timeout. Out of the break, Barwick found Baker in the left corner for a wide open three-point attempt after a Crestwood player fell down on the play. The shot hit the back of the iron and was rebounded by Barwick in the lane. She made an attempt toward the hoop and was fouled. However, the referee called the foul on the floor, not permitting Barwick a pair of shots from the free throw line for a chance to tie the game.

Louisville retained possession with 3.6 seconds left, but the Red Devil defense stiffened on the inbound. The Leopard inbound went to the top of the key and the second of two quick passes was stolen by Livia Martini to clinch the game for Crestwood.

Baker Finishes with 16 for Louisville

Baker made 4 three-pointers and finished with 16 points for the Leopards. Baker scored 13 points in the first half as Louisville built a 29-21 halftime advantage.

The game was back-and-forth at the onset as the two teams played to a 19-19 tie past the midway point of the second quarter. The Leopards scored the next 8 points to take control of the game as part of an 18-4 run to open up a 37-23 advantage with 4:45 remaining in the third quarter.

Tillett scored all 5 of her points in the first quarter and Reagan Biery added all 3 of her points in the second quarter. Other scorers for LHS included Karis Miglich and Kiko with a basket each in the third quarter.

Ward and Brady Finish in Double Figures for Crestwood

Hannah Ward scored in every quarter and finished with a team high 12 to lead the Red Devils. Rebecca Brady also ended her evening in double figures with 10.

Martini had 8, Ava Lincoln tallied 7, and Madison Dustman registered 5. Guyette and Grace Harper rounded out the Crestwood scoring with 4 each.

Red Devils Rally Back from 14-Point Deficit

The Red Devils concocted a 20-4 second-half run to take a 43-41 lead. The 20-4 run came in direct response to the Lady Leopards 18-4 run and allowed Crestwood to take their first lead of the game since an early 6-5 advantage in the first quarter.

A Baker three-pointer put Louisville back in front 44-43, but the Red Devils scored the next 5 points to take their largest lead of the game at 48-44. The Leopards would tie it, but Crestwood prevailed in the end to secure their fourth straight victory. The Red Devils are now 11-4 on the season.

This was the first-ever meeting between Louisville and Crestwood in girls basketball. The Red Devils are the 86th unique opponent the Lady Leopards have challenged all-time and the fifth of eight first time opponents this season.

.UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to take on the Austintown Fitch Falcons on Saturday, January 18. JV will begin at 11:00 AM and Varsity will follow around 11:45 AM from Austintown Fitch High School.
