The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team fell to the host two-time defending Division IV State Champion Berlin Hiland Hawks in Saturday’s season opener at Lehman Field.

Leopards Strike First in Opening Frame

Romeo's Pizza Louisville, Ohio AdLouisville struck quickly in the top of the first. Senior Cooper Rice singled to right to open the game and advanced to second on Zander Triplett’s groundout to second two batters later. 

Rice then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher to give the Leopards the early 1-0 advantage.


Coblentz Powers Hiland with Pair of Homers

Hiland evened the game immediately in the bottom half when leadoff hitter Caden Coblentz launched a solo home run to center to knot the game at 1-1.

Coblentz gave the Hawks the lead with a towering solo shot over the 30-foot “Green Monster” batting practice building in left field. Coblentz would finish 3-for-4 at the top of the lineup.


Hershberger Finishes 3-for-3

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdLuke Hershberger went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in an insurance run to put the Hawks ahead 3-1 in the fifth inning. His infield single to shortstop plated Colin Coblentz who drew a base on balls to start the frame.

Berlin Hiland would out-hit Louisville 8-7 for the contest. Cade Beachy and Grady Monigold had the other base hits for the Hawks.


Leghart Fans 7 in Season-Opening Start

Senior Brock Leghart started on the mound for the Leopards with a strong outing. He worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, and struck out 7

Junior Caden Kortis came on in relief and delivered 1 1/3 scoreless innings, retiring all four batters he faced while throwing just 7 pitches.

Defensively, the Leopards were sharp — committing no errors in the field. Max Roberts led the Louisville defensive effort with 3 putouts in the field.


Paumier and Roberts Record Multi-Hit Games

Max Roberts and Ty Paumier led the Leopard bats with two hits each. Roberts finished with a double and single, while Paumier produced a pair of singles. 

Jake Beard and Grayson Brunoni each added hits for Louisville.


Kandel and Coblentz Limit Leopards

Kaden Kandel earned the win for the Hawks in a six-inning start on the hill. He allowed 1 unearned run on 7 hits, walked just one, and struck out five. Colin Coblentz worked the seventh to earn the save, striking out one and allowing two base runners but keeping the Leopards off the board.

Louisville threatened in the third, fourth, and seventh innings with multiple runners on base, but couldn’t capitalize. The Hawks also turned a double play to end the Leopard fifth.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next host the Canfield Cardinals for their home opener on Monday, March 31. Varsity first pitch is slated for 5:00 PM from Andy Aljancic Field. JV will be on the road at Canfield’s Phil Bova Field at the same time. Freshman will be hosting the Canton Central Catholic Crusaders in their home opener simultaneously.

Third-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks Past Louisville Leopards JV 2025

Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks defeated Louisville Leopards JV 2025 16-1 on Saturday thanks in part to nine runs in the third inning.

Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks first got on the board when Damon Troyer singled, scoring one run.

Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks scored nine runs on eight hits in the top of the third inning. Jonah Yoder singled, scoring two runs, Kaleb Miller singled, scoring one run, Jacoby Miller drew a walk, scoring one run, Christian Mullet drew a walk, scoring one run, Will Beachy doubled, scoring three runs, and Troyer singled, scoring one run.

Troyer earned the win for Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks. The starter surrendered two hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking none. Landyn Fohner took the loss for Louisville Leopards JV 2025. The starting pitcher went two innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking two.

Kody Zahler and Anderson Kandel each collected one hit for Louisville Leopards JV 2025.

Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks tallied 13 hits in the game. Yoder and Troyer were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks while hitting back-to-back. Beachy and Yoder each drove in three runs for Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks. Carson Yoder collected two hits for Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks in five at bats. Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks had a strong eye at the plate, collecting nine walks for the game. Troyer, Mullet, and Hunter Miller led the team with two free passes each. Miller stole two bases. Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks ran wild on the base paths, piling up seven stolen bases for the game. Hiland Junior Varsity Hawks were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Yoder had the most chances in the field with six.

Louisville Leopards JV 2025 will travel to Canfield for their next game on Monday.
