Leopards Lose Race Against Mustangs After Slow Start in Preview
Video Highlights
Maple Heights 23, Louisville 16
Maple Heights built leads of 11-0 and 16-2 before holding off the Leopards for a 23-16 one half preview victory at Jackson High School Friday Night. Alex Hollifield led the Leopards with 5 points, while Cody Cheezan added 4, and Jake Adams hit home a three-pointer.
The Mustangs scored the first eleven points of the contest mostly via fast break baskets before Louisville Freshman Drew Noble broke the drought with a lay-in at the 2:51 mark of the first. Then Maple Heights would answer with 5 more consecutive points to build a 14-point advantage with under a minute to play in the quarter.
But back came Louisville with a 12-1 run. Hollifield buried a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the opening quarter to start the run. Cheezan then laid in back-to-back buckets to cut the deficit to 16-9 early on in the second quarter.
After a free throw by the Mustangs, Adams buried a three-pointer and Hollifield drove to the hole to trim the Maple Heights lead to 17-14 with 4:40 left in the game.
A few possessions later, a Mustangs player intercepted a pass and jammed it home to put Maple Heights up 19-14. Blake Hoover would add in one final bucket for Louisville, but it would not be enough as the Mustangs galloped to a 23-16 win.
