Leopards Fall to First Place Dukes 9-3

The Louisville Leopards fell to the first place Marlington Dukes 9-3 Friday Evening. With the loss, Louisville falls to 6-9 overall and 6-4 in the NBC. Marlington improves to 12-3 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0.
The Leopards captured the early lead in the bottom of the first without registering a hit. Stephen Kerzan’s hard hit ground ball kicked off the glove of the Dukes shortstop allowing both Alex Hollifield & Garrett Yoder to score on the play. Hollifield reached base on an error and stole second. Yoder reached base via a dropped third strike and also stole the open second base to put both runners in scoring position.
Marlington would rally to build a 5-2 lead before Louisville would score again in the sixth. Hollifield and Kerzan both singled in the inning and then advanced into scoring position via an error. Joe Crank then drove home Hollifield for the only Leopard RBI of the game by hitting a sac fly to right field.
Connor Zwick had the only other hit for Louisville the inning before when he cracked a double to center. The Leopards had just 3 hits in the contest as Dukes pitcher Jake Jones worked a complete game and struck out 10.
Louisville committed 5 of their 8 errors in the seventh inning allowing Marlington to tally four more runs. DJ Greiner, Austin Hershberger, and Tony Rupert had 2 hits & an RBI each to lead the Dukes. Marlington has now won 4 out of the last 5 meetings with Louisville.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next take on the Jackson Polar Bears on Saturday, May 2. Varsity will be Home at 11 AM, while JV & Freshman will play a Double Header at Jackson beginning at 10:00 AM.

Ryan Richards threw a complete game shutout and struck out 8 to lead Louisville past host Marlington 9-0 Friday. With the victory, the Freshman Team improves to 7-4 on the season.
Nathan Mongiardo led the offense by hitting 3 for 5 with 2 runs batted in. Chase Lautzenheiser also had 2 hits including a double and Carson Davis added 2 RBI’s.
The Leopards have now defeated the Dukes twice this season.
