Leopards Blank the Warriors 28-0

It was 1998, the Bill Clinton Monica Lewinsky scandal was headline news, baseball record books were being re-written without a thought of steroids, and the West Branch Warriors beat the the Louisville Leopards 39-33. West Branch’s last win against the Leopards definitely seemed like something out of a history book to the 2010 Warriors. Louisville amassed 436 yards of offense and their defense held the Warriors off the board in a 28-0 victory.

After defensive battle in the first quarter, the Leopards broke through with two Lucas Poyser touchdowns. Poyser altogether ran for 96 yards on the ground including a tackle-busting fourth quarter run.

Any hope for a West Branch Warriors second half comeback was put out by the Leopards defense. The Warriors moved the ball well on the ground in the first half, but lacking a long-range kicking game they were forced to go for it in fourth down situations in Leopards territory and failed to convert. There were no such opportunities in the second half however as the Louisville defense continued to hold West Branch off the board while setting up great field position for the offense.

Chad Neff was near perfect completing 19 of 22 passes for 226 yards. His favorite target was Michael Schooley who caught 8 passes accounting for 124 yards as well as a 17 yard touchdown pass to put the Leopards up 21-0. Schooley also set up another touchdown in the fourth quarter when he made a first down grab to the Warriors’ 7-yard line.

Neff, who also rushed for 94 yards, scored on a 5-yard draw a couple plays later.

The Leopards did have one major hiccup in their 12th straight win against West Branch, as Neff threw an interception late in the fourth quarter off the hands of his receiver and into the hands of Sophomore Brandon Woolf. The Warriors returned the interception to near mid-field.

However, the defense stiffened again for Louisville giving the Leopards offense the ball back, which they used to run the remaining minutes off the clock. The Leopards who started off 0-2 on the year now sit at 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the NBC. The Warriors fall to 1-5 and 0-5 in the Conference. It was also Louisville’s 15th straight home victory as they remain undefeated at their new venue.
