JV Football Grinds Out Shutout Win Over Canton South
Louisville 12, Canton South 0
The Louisville Leopards JV Football Team battled past the visiting Canton South Wildcats to earn a 12-0 shutout victory on a brisk, rainy morning at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the win, Louisville is now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the NBC.
The Leopards Offense threatened to score several times through the first three quarters, but failed to punch it in. However, Louisville’s defense also held Canton South scoreless. One Wildcat drive was stopped when Justin Vanover leaped to intercept a pass at midfield. Ethan Bellew provided pressure on the Quarterback to force the throw. .
Canton South responded by blocking a Louisville punt four plays later. However, the Leopards Defense did not break and forced a turnover on downs at the Louisville 27 four plays after that. That was the closest the Wildcats would get to scoring all morning.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Leopards finally got the break they needed. A high snap sailed off the fingertips of the Wildcats punter and Steve Venable fell on it at the Canton South 9. One play later Sean McKinney charged into the endzone to put Louisville up 6-0.
The Leopards found the endzone again later in the quarter. A 26 yard punt return by Gavin Birone set Louisville up on the Canton South 46. After several nice runs by Jack Davis and BJ Singer, it was Cole Weston who rolled to the left side to score from 3 yards away.
The Leopards defense pushed the Wildcats backward on their final drive and even forced a 3rd-and-44 scenario. Venable’s sack on the drive was key in dooming any chance the Wildcats had of breaking the shutout.
Casey Curlutu, Drew Doerschuk, Willie Oliver, and Dylan Walczak were all in on sacks earlier in the game as well.
UP NEXT: The Leopards JV Football Team will next host the Alliance Aviators on Saturday, September 18 at 10:00 PM.
