Beatty's Sports Football 2018 Schedule Shirt T-ShirtThe Louisville Leopards Varsity Football Team competed in their annual Blue-White Intersquad Scrimmage Saturday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. Blue prevailed over White 3-1 to begin the preseason.

The scrimmage started off with a bang as Max Hartline took a handoff to the left, got key blocks from Cameron Norquest and Josh Stafford, and rumbled his way across the midfield stripe for a gain of 17. On the next play, Hartline flashed his speed again on a counter to the left for 10 yards to put Blue at the White 38 yard line. Eight plays later, another Stafford block paved the way for Hartline to score from a yard away.

Colton Jones, who played Quarterback for both squads, completed a short gain to Austin Cummings and then hit Bryce Zuppe for a gain of 17 to put White across midfield to the Blue 44. Jones next hit Dominic Mongiardo for a pair of short completions and a run by Nathan Guiley put the White squad on the outskirts of the redzone. However, the next 3 plays netted just 2 yards. The possession ended with Dillon Rebuck picking off a pass at the 9 yard line.

Starting from their own 9, Blue began to march again. Jones connected with Grayson Beamer, who also made two catches on the first drive, for a gain of 16. Two sacks from the combined efforts of White’s Jason Goard, Austin Griggy, and Cummings pushed the ball back. However, Blue got it all back and more when Jones delivered a 34 yard pass to Beamer who made an over the shoulder catch near the right sideline. The Jones to Beamer show continued in the next play for another gain of 12 to the White 22.

Jones then hit Rebuck for a gain of 13, but Guiley stormed in for a sack on the next play to push the ball back to the 23. The drive ended the same way it started with Rebuck catching a pass thrown by Jones, but this time on offense. The 23 yard touchdown pass put Blue up 2-0.

Austen Black sacked Jones on White’s shortened final possession and the teams began the overtime situation portion. Jones scampered up the middle for a gain of 18 on Blue’s first redzone possession. Behind the blocking of Blake Robbins and Stafford, Gage Hartman did the rest scoring from 2 yards out to put Blue on top 3-0.

White got on the board in their only redzone possession. Facing what would have been a 4th-and-6 in a real contest, Jones connected with Guiley on a screen pass for a gain of 10 to the 6. Two plays later, Jones looked off the defenders to his left and threaded the seam to Ryan Pukys in the back of the end zone to finalize the score at 3-1.
