Lady Leopards Rally Unhinged by Howland Late – Girls Basketball

Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdThe Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Howland Tigers 65-51 Saturday Afternoon at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 1-9 on the season.

Kayla Gibson scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Lady Leopards offense. Erin Hahn added 12 points to go along with a game-high 3 blocks and Ellie Jackson finished with 9 points and 3 steals. Other Louisville leaders included Maggie Galentine who had a game-high 6 assists and Morgan Cole who pulled down a team leading 10 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers took an early 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and pulled ahead by double digits at 36-22 by halftime. The Leopards came to life in the third quarter as Gibson scored 10 points in the period to help Louisville outscore Howland 20-14.

In a span of less than three minutes Louisville used an 8-0 run to cut a double figure deficit down to 50-46 with 6:51 remaining in the game. Jackson recorded back-to-back steals leading to her own scores at the end the rally. But these would be the final Leopards field goals until Gibson drove to the hole with just 20 seconds remaining in the contest.

Howland answered with 7 straight points to push their lead back up to double digits. Gabby Hartzell and Ka’Rina Mallory each hit back-breaking three-pointers as they sealed their victory with a 15-3 run overall. 

Hartzell led the Tigers (8-4) by pouring in a game-high 29 points in making 3 of her team’s 5 three-pointers. Alex Ochman also scored 14 points and recorded a game-high 11 rebounds, and Mackenzie Maze added 9 points to go along with a game leading 6 assists. Maze also had 8 rebounds and tied Mallory for the team lead in steals with 3.

This was the first ever meeting between these two schools in Girls Basketball..

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Minerva Lions on Wednesday, January 3. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM.

The Lady Leopards JV Team edged the visiting Howland Tigers 41-40 in the final seconds of a back-and-forth affair Saturday Afternoon at LHS. With the victory, Louisville improves their overall mark to 9-1 on the season.

Sydney Bast finished with a game-high 12 points to lead the Lady Leopards. Lauren Siegfried also cashed in all 3 Louisville three-pointers in scoring 9 and Erika Joseph added 8.

Joseph hit a pair of free throws with 8.4 seconds remaining to put the Leopards ahead 41-40. After a foul, Paige Cole blocked the potential Tiger game-winner on the other end to seal the contest for Louisville. 

Howland was led by Jenna DeSalvo who also notched a game-high 12. MaKayla Dehman added 9 and Gillian Powell scored 8 for the Lady Tigers as well.
