Louisville 12, Archbishop Hoban 3

The Louisville Leopards used a furious fourth quarter rally to storm past the visiting Akron Archbishop Hoban Knights 12-3 back on September 11, 2009.

Beatty's Sports Football 2018 Schedule Shirt T-ShirtJaron Lohmeyer got the Leopards on the board with a 27 yard field goal early on in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 3-3. The kick countered an earlier second quarter Knights field goal that was an identical 27 yards off the foot of Zach Christensen.

Following the field goal, the Louisville kickoff coverage pinned Hoban inside their own 10 for the second time in the game. The stone-wall Leopards defense didn’t give an inch and forced the Knights to punt under the shadow of their own goal posts. On that fourth down play, the snap sailed out of the back of the endzone giving Louisville a safety and the lead at 5-3.

Mitch Sluss returned the ensuing free kick to the Hoban 41 setting the Leopards up for a game-clinching scoring drive. On the very next play, Quarterback Bobby Swigert scampered 36 yards to the left side to setup Louisville 1st-and-Goal on the Hoban 5. A few plays later, Swigert would score on a 1 yard touchdown run. Lohmeyer’s extra point attempt was true to make it a two score game at 12-3 with 6:25 left to play.

The Leopards defense held the Knights off the scoreboard the rest of the way as Louisville improved to 3-0. Swigert finished the night 15 of 27 for 105 yards. Other Louisville leaders included Runningback Lucas Poyser who finished as the game’s leading rusher with 57 yards on 15 carries and Wide Receiver Joe Stoffer who also made 8 receptions for 45 yards.
