The Louisville Leopards Freshman Football team upended the visiting North Canton Hoover Vikings 32-13 Thursday at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville is now 1-1.

Drew Doerschuck made six catches of 10 or more yards, caught two touchdown passes, and made an interception on defense to lead the Leopards. Dylan Walczak followed that pick with a 24 yard run on Louisville’s opening drive. That setup a 16 yard touchdown connection from Quarterback Jack Davis to Logan Thomas.

BJ Singer was the next Leopard to step up on defense as he picked off a pass on the Vikings next drive. Gavin VanZant then broke a 65 yard run, which setup a 5 yard touchdown run by Walczak. Hoover answered back by breaking free for an 80 yard score on their next play from scrimmage to trim the Louisville lead to 12-7 after the first quarter.

The Leopards found the endzone two more times in the second quarter. Davis and Doerschuck connected several times with a drive that ended with the two combining for a 12 yard score. Davis later hit VanZant for a 10 yard touchdown pass and then Thomas for the two point conversion to put Louisville ahead 26-7. Singer caught a 40 yard reception from Davis on the play before the touchdown strike.

The Vikings scored late in the second quarter to cut their deficit to 26-13 at halftime. Neither team scored in the the third period, but the Leopards found the endzone once more in the fourth. On their final scoring drive they faced a 3rd-and-33. A 30 yard pass from Davis to Louis Johnson shrunk the down and distance to 4th-and-3. A Davis to Thomas passing play gave Louisville a first down. Again they faced a 4th-and-3 from the 8 and again the Leopards produced a big play. Davis found Doerschuck who won a jump ball in the right corner of the endzone to finalize the score at 32-13.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Canton South to take on the Wildcats on Thursday, September 11 at 5:00 PM.
