Freshman Football Whacks West Branch 34-0
Louisville 34, West Branch 0
The Louisville Leopards Freshman Football Team shutout the visiting West Branch Warriors 34-0 Thursday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the victory, Louisville is now 4-2 overall and 3-0 against NBC competition.
The Leopards got big plays from all around during their win against the Warriors. Quarterback Jared Mathie threw three touchdown passes and also broke free for an 80 yard touchdown scamper to lead Louisville. Bryce Zuppe also reached the endzone three times. He hauled in touchdown receptions of 45 & 43 yards and said goodnight with a 41 yard pick six to make it 34-0 Leopards midway through the third quarter.
Cameron Lingle led the defense by intercepting a pass and ending two other West Branch drives with fourth down pass break-ups. Lingle also made several catches on offense and was instrumental in moving the ball down the field on the Leopards scoring drive just before half. Lingle made a 20 yard reception to move the ball across midfield and also caught a 25 yard pass to setup Louisville on the West Branch 17.
On the next play, Mathie found Jackson Kandel in the back of the endzone with just five seconds left until halftime. The touchdown capped off a 7 play, 91 yard drive that only took 1:28 off the clock. Max Hartline sprinted down the middle for the two-point conversion to give the Leopards a 20-0 advantage at the break.
Corban Brown also had an interception late in the contest to preserve the Louisville shutout.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next hit the road to makeup their game with the North Canton Hoover on Wednesday, October 14 at 5:00 PM.
