Not only did the Falcones keep the Leopards off the scoreboard, but their Defense forced 3 turnovers and created two scores of their own. Senior Outside Linebacker Zach Krohn generated a 43 yard pick six for the first points of the contest in the opening quarter. Junior Inside Linebacker Joey Zielinski and Junior Defensive Lineman Willie Beverly stormed in for a sack just before half that resulted in a safety. That score gave Austintown Fitch a 23-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Falcons forced a takeaway on the Leopards first possession. Junior Inside Linebacker Jakari Lumsden jarred the ball free and Krohn picked it up and returned the fumble to the Louisville 26. That eventually led to a Dylan Correia 28 yard field goal for the final points of the game.
Discounting Smith’s touchdown, Fitch only sustained one solid drive against the Leopards defense. The Falcons drove 47 yards in 6 plays early on in the second quarter. That drive ended with Junior Quarterback Nate Fowler connecting with Junior Wide Receiver Jason Johns for a 17 yard touchdown. Johns caught the ball at the Louisville 8, broke a tackle, and reached the endzone.
The Leopards opening drive was their best of the night as they traveled 59 yards on 10 plays. The drive stalled on the Falcons 17 and a missed field goal resulted.
Louisville crossed midfield just one more time in the opening half, but a penalty brought relocated them back into their own territory on the next play. The Leopards got as close as the Fitch 23 late in the third quarter, but their third down play resulted in a 2 yard loss and the drive ended with an incompletion in the endzone on fourth down.
Senior Defensive Back J.C. Mikovich also recorded the Falcons other interception. On the second play of the fourth quarter he made a wild leaping grab at the Austintown 22 yard line to end the Leopards final relevant drive.
With the loss, Louisville is now 0-2 all-time against Austintown Fitch.
