My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdThe Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team earned an 11-1 run-rule victory over the visiting East Canton Hornets Saturday Afternoon on the newly dedicated Andy Aljancic Field. Louisville is now 16-6 on the season following the win.

Trailing 1-0, the Leopards batted around in the bottom of the second and produced four runs. Louisville loaded the bases on a pair of walks and an infield error. Justin Blyer drew a walk after working the count full to bring home Caleb Prasco for the game-tying run. Then Dillon Rebuck scored on a wild pitch to put LHS ahead 2-1.

Dom Mongiardo followed with an RBI single that brought home Max Hartline to make it 3-1. Mongiardo would finished with 2 of the Leopards 6 hits in the game. Another walk reloaded the bases and a 6 pitch walk to Bryce Zuppe brought home Blyer to put Louisville up 4-1.

The Leopards broke the game open with a 6-run fourth inning. Louisville again loaded the bases, but this time Cam Lingle cleared them with a 3-run line drive double to center. Mongiardo, Davis Burick, and Zuppe all scored on the play. Two batters later, Austin Cummings singled home Lingle from second to put LHS ahead 8-1.

Louisville tacked on two more runs in the fourth when Blyer popped to short and reached on an error. Cummings easily came home from third and since their were two outs Hartline was able to score from second to give the Leopards double digits and a 10-1 advantage.

Louisville needed a single run to put the game away in the bottom of the fifth. Burick reached on an error to start the inning and advanced to second after tagging up on Zuppe’s fly out to right. Jordan Shearer grounded out to second which put Burick 90 feet away at third. On the next pitch, Prasco delivered a walk-off RBI single to right scoring Burick for the game ending run.

Earlier, the Hornets got on the board first when Andrew Gothard hit a 2-out, RBI single to center field bringing home Joe Knopp from second. Leopards Starter Andrew Gray shut down East Canton after that to earn the win and improve to 6-2 on the year. Gray pitched all 5 innings, allowed just 3 hits, and struck out 4.

This is the first time the two teams have met on the baseball diamond in 37 years. The Leopards and Hornets last played each other in 1982 when they squared off in the regular season three times.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next host the North Canton Hoover Vikings for Senior Night on Monday, May 6 at 5:00 PM.
