My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdThe Louisville Leopards Baseball Team welcomed in the first regular season game on their new turf field this past Saturday against the Dover Tornadoes. Louisville dominated in a 9-0 shutout of Dover on the Field of Dreams to start the 2019 campaign.

Starter Jordan Shearer pitched 5 strong scoreless innings, gave up just 2 hits, and struck out 3 to earn the victory on he mound for Louisville. Cam Lingle allowed just a single hit in 2 innings of relief work that secured the LHS shutout.

Davis Burick and Dillon Rebuck both batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs to lead the Leopards at the plate. Austin Cummings and Cam King also went 2-for-3 at the dish as Louisville pounded out 12 hits as a team.

The Leopards wasted no time in getting the lead in the bottom of the first. King singled, Burick doubled, and then Caleb Prasco hit a sacrifice fly to center to score King for the first and what would prove to be the only run Louisville would need.

The Leopards extended their advantage with 3 runs in the second and Rebuck doubled to left field scoring Cummings and Max Hartline. Rebuck later came home via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryce Zuppe to put Louisville up 4-0.

Two quick outs to start the next inning looked to prevent the Leopards from scoring in their third straight frame. Lingle tripled to right field on the next pitch and Cummings singled him home after that.

The Leopards offense began their 4-run fourth inning with 5 straight singles. Zuppe singled in Rebuck. Then Burick smacked a 2-run single plating Dom Mongiardo and Zuppe. Burick advanced to second after a groundout, stole third, and then came home via an error by the Dover catcher to give Louisville a commanding 9-0 advantage heading into the fifth. Neither team would score the rest of the way.

The Tornadoes (0-1) were led by Mitchell Woodhall who finished with 2 of their 3 hits. Lead-off batter Ethan Snyder had the other hit for Dover and Owen Poland pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief.
