Lady Leopards Tennis Sectional Tournament Recap
The Louisville Leopards Girls Tennis Team members competed at the Division I Canton Sectional Tournament held at Jackson Park last week on October 1-2.
Both Lady Leopards doubles teams and every Louisville singles player won their opening matches at the Sectional Tournament. Overall LHS went 6-5 in matches for the tournament going 4-3 in singles play and 2-2 in doubles action.
Rachel Kibler was the only Leopard to advance to the Quarterfinals on Wednesday. She earned a first round bye before defeating Alliance’s Alyssa White in convincing fashion 6-0, 6-1. Kibler made a stunning comeback in her third round match against Jackson’s Rachael Williams. Kibler bowed to Williams in the opening set 6-0, but rebounded to win the second set 7-5. Kibler turned the tables by blanking Williams 6-0 in the third set to advance to the Quarterfinals.
Kibler’s tournament run and the Lady Leopards season came to a close on Wednesday, October 2. Kibler fell 6-0, 6-0 to Boardman’s Ava Valko in their Quarterfinal match. Valko would finish third in the Sectional after falling to Canfield’s Anna Kan in the semifinals and defeating North Canton Hoover’s Lilly Altman in the consolation third place match. Hoover’s Laurel Utterback won the tournament by defeating Kan in the Sectional Title Match.
Both Isabelle Menegay and Sherilynn Mullett both won their opening round singles matches in straight sets. Menegay defeated Alliance’s Brooke Sams 6-1, 6-0 and Mullett took down Canton McKinley’s Josie Lloyd 6-4, 6-4. Both would fall in round two to the opposition.
Both Louisville doubles teams earned a first round bye and won their second round match. The team of Carleen Fouts and Bailey Menegay defeated New Philadelphia’s Allison Richwine and Sophia Troyer in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. The team of Mandy Plaskett and Jade Thomas rallied to defeat Green’s Emily Peel and Celeste Uhl 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. Both would drop their next doubles matches in round 3.
