Defense, Castles Crumble Orrville in Scrimmage

The Dress Rehearsal went exactly as scripted for the Leopards Saturday evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. Louisville took apart the visiting Orrville 27-0 in a two quarter scrimmage Saturday at Louisville Leopards Stadium.

The Leopard Defense held the Red Riders to -10 yards of offense on 27 plays. Orrville had no answer Beatty's Sports Blue Football Schedule Shirtfor Louisville Defensive Lineman Daichi Castles who record 3 sacks, forced a fumble, and tackled the punter to setup the Leopards on the Red Riders 22 midway through the first quarter.

Folllowing that Quarterback Connor Zwick ran for a 15 yard gain to setup a Walter Schrock 7 yard touchdown run. On the very next play, a high snap led to “Holy Roller” type play. Jake Mathie scooped up the loose ball and ran it in for a 3 yard fumble return touchdown to put Louisville ahead 14-0 after the game was scoreless just 10 seconds of game-time before.

Castles ended the ensuing Orrville drive with a sack on 4th-and-5 setting up the Leopards on their own 44. Zwick scampered 30 of his game-high 44 yards down the left sideline on the next play. This eventually setup Austin Terra’s 24 yard field goal that put Louisville ahead 17-0 with 18 seconds left in the opening quarter. Terra would later just miss from 41 and connect from 38 to finish with 9 points on the evening.

Substitutions were made in the second quarter and backup Quarterback Jake Adams played impressive in relief. He completed 5 of 8 passes for 69 yards and led the Leopards on two scoring Drives. Dalton Deckerd ran in a touchdown from 3 yards away on the first scoring series. The drive started after Castles forced a fumble and Tanner Brahler recovered on the Orrville 37.

Seven Louisville receivers made receptions in the contest led by Josh McQuilkin who made 2 receptions for 29 yards. The Leopards defense held the Red Riders to -42 yards on 6 rushes. Jarrett Heater also recorded a sack near the end of the contest.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next open up the season at Canfield on Friday, August 29 at 7:00 PM. Freshman will host the Cardinals on on Thursday, August 28 at 5:00 PM and JV will be hosting the Jackson Polar Bears on Saturday, August 30 at 10:00 AM.
