The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Dalton Bulldogs 49-44 Saturday afternoon at Louisville High School. With the loss, Louisville falls to 1-4 on the season.

Baker and Tillett Score 14 Each to Lead Louisville

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdMaggie Baker and Ella Tillett each scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Lady Leopards.

Louisville led 6-0 at the start of the contest and Kloey Rukavina added two more baskets, propelling the Lady Leopards to a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Baker hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 10 points in the second quarter as Louisville took a 22-18 lead into halftime.

Tillett scored six of her 10 second-half points in the third quarter as the teams headed into the final period tied 32-32.


Lady Leopards Fourth Quarter Rally Falls Short

Mabel Kiko put Louisville ahead early in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer via an assist from Mikayla Salmons to make it 35-32.

Dalton pushed ahead 44-37, but the Leopards responded with a 7-1 run to climb back into the game. Tillett scored on a drive to the basket and Salmons got Louisville to within 44-41 on a steal and score. Later, Makayla Tanner banged home a three-pointer off a pass from Baker to cut the deficit to 45-44.

Kiko and Tanner each finished with five points for the Lady Leopards.


Dorffer Leads Bulldogs With Game-High 17

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdGrace Dorffer scored 9 of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Dorffer also hit 2 of her game-best 4 three-pointers in the final stanza, enabling Dalton to pull ahead late.

Payton Lehman and Mei Simmons also poured in 9 points each. Lehman answered Tanner’s triple on the other end with her third three-pointer of the contest to put the Bulldogs ahead 48-44. Simmons scored from the field in every quarter, including a three-pointer in the opening period.

Baylie Horrisberger also made a pair of three-pointers and Mya Geiser matched her with 6 points. Phoebe Lehman rounded out the Dalton scoring by splitting two separate pairs of free throws, including one with 12.9 seconds remaining to extend the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to 49-44.


Louisville Vs. Dalton Girls Basketball Series

West Main Vet Clinic AdLouisville had defeated Dalton in each of the past three seasons coming into the contest, including a 41-39 home victory earlier this year on January 25. 

The Lady Leopards still lead the all-time series 3-2 dating back to 2020-21 season, which includes a 2-1 record in games played at Louisville.

JV: Dalton 34, Louisville 33

Kloey Rukavina scored all of her team-high 10 points in the first three quarters to lead the Lady Leopards JV in a hard-fought 34-33 loss to the visiting Lady Bulldogs. With the loss, Louisville JV is now 1-3 on the season.

Bailey Cole scored in every quarter and dropped in nine, including a three-pointer. Natalia Tonnous hit the Lady Leopards’ only other two three-pointers and finished with eight. Ava Seitz also scored four and Makenna Haugen added two.

The teams played to a 14-14 halftime tie and remained knotted 26-26 after three quarters. Dalton pulled ahead 32-28 before Tonnous capped a 5-0 Louisville run with a top-of-the-key three with 1:16 remaining.

An over-the-back foul called against the Lady Leopards with 8.9 seconds left put the Bulldogs in the bonus. Haley Wengerd calmly hit both free throws to give Dalton a 34-33 lead—and ultimately the win.

Izzy Harst scored 7 of her game-high 11 points in the second half to lead the Bulldogs. Lena Nevenschwarder hit 2 three-pointers and finished with 8. Mallory Ramsay also hit a three-pointer and finished with five points.
