The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team downed the visiting Cardinal Mooney Cardinals 75-58 Saturday Night at Louisville High School. With the win, Louisville improves to 12-7 on the season.
Four different Leopards reached double figures led by Jimmy Wright who scored a team-high 12. Wright made 3 of Louisville’s 8 three-pointers in the game including 2 in the first quarter. Scotty Gronow and Jared Mathie each added 11. Colton Jones also hit a pair of three-pointers and reached double figures with 10.
The Leopards trailed 20-16 at the end of the first quarter, but exploded in the second. They outscored the Cardinals 23-9 to take a double digit 39-29 lead at the break. Louisville continued to extend their lead in the second half in pulling ahead 54-39 at the end of three before outscoring Mooney 21-19 in the fourth.
The Cardinals were led by Pete Haas who made 3 first quarter three-pointers and finished with a game-high 20. Mike Pelini also made a pair of triples in the opening quarter which saw Mooney hit 6 three-pointers. Pelini ended the evening with 15 and Sonny Rodriguez rounded out the Cardinals top scorers with 7.
This was the first known meeting between the two school in boys basketball.
