Louisville Rallies from 4-0 Hole in Home Win Vs. Canton McKinley – Baseball
Louisville 6, Canton McKinley 4
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team rallied for 6-4 victory over the visiting Canton McKinley Bulldogs Monday Evening at the Field of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville has now won 5 of their last 6 and now sits at 7-2 on the season.
Bryce Zuppe batted 2-for-3 with a triple, home run, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs score to lead the Leopards. Max Hartline fueled the Louisville rally by going 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBIs, and a run.
The Leopards found themselves in a 4-0 hole in the middle of the second inning. Hartline led off the bottom of the frame with an infield single, advanced to second on a walk, and traveled to third on a Broc Pickens single that loaded the bases. Two pitches later, Cam Lingle smacked a fly ball to center to sacrifice home Hartline to get Louisville on the board.
In the third inning, Hartline cracked a 1-out, 2-run double to right field scoring Zuppe and Cam King. Both runners got aboard via free passes to start the inning and then advanced into scoring position via a Davis Burick groundout to third. Dillon Rebuck doubled in the next at-bat, but Hartline was unable to advance home leaving the score at 4-3 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Leopards snatched the lead in the fourth inning. Lingle reached on an error and then stole second. Two batters later, Zuppe tripled on a fly ball to right field bringing home Lingle to tie the game at 4-4. King hit a sacrifice fly to left field two pitches after that to plate Zuppe and give Louisville a 5-4 advantage.
Zuppe capped off the Leopards comeback with a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning. The dinger was his first of the 2019 campaign and fourth of his Varsity career.
Louisville scored 6 unanswered runs to end the game thanks in part to stellar pitching by Jordan Shearer and Lingle holding McKinley at bay. Three of the Bulldog’s 4 runs in the first two innings were earned, but Shearer gave up just 3 hits in his four shutout innings that followed. He finished pitching 6 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits, and striking out 6 to earn the victory to improve to 3-1 on the year. Lingle retired the side in order in the seventh to pick up the save.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next host the Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish on Tuesday, April 9 at 5:00 PM. JV will be on the road at St. Vincent-St. Mary at he same time. Freshman will travel to face the Tuslaw Mustangs at 5:00 PM.
