Browns 22, Bears 12

The Browns defeated the Bears 22-12 Saturday evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium to claim the 2013 7th-8th Grade Championship. The Browns finish the season 6-1 and the Bears finish 5-2.

The Browns got on the board first just before halftime when Jared Mathie intercepted and returned a tipped pass 56 yards for a touchdown. Daniel Heppner’s extra point split the uprights to put the Browns up 8-0 at the half.

The Bears answered back with a methodic drive before Max Hartline plowed in from 2 yards out at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The extra point failed though leaving the Browns in the lead 8-6.

However, any momentum the Bears seized was removed on the very next play when Dylan Walczak busted free and ran 65 yards for a score to make it 14-6 Browns. After another Browns defensive stop, Walczak plowed ahead for several big runs before scoring on a 26 yard touchdown run. Heppner’s extra point was good this time to make it 22-6.

The Bears next got a much needed quick strike three plays later when Quarterback Jack Davis connected with Andrew Kerr for a 46 yard touchdown completion. The touchdown cut the deficit to 22-12, but the Browns blocked the extra point to remove any chance of a Bears comeback.

The Browns ran the clock out before claiming the 7th-8th Grade Championship.
