Boys Golf Keeps Title Hopes Alive With Tie-Breaker Win Vs. Carrollton

Dan Duplain Louisville Leopards Boys Golf

The Louisville Leopards Boys Golf team stayed very much alive in the NBC Regular Season Title race with a fifth man tie-breaking victory over the Carrollton Warriors Wednesday at Skyland Pines. With the victory, the Leopards are now 8-5 overall and 8-4 in the NBC.

Mac Hanson had the top score for Louisville in the contest after shooting a 40. Nick Fawver (42), Matt Beatty's Sports White Polo AdEddins (43), and Hunter Williams (43) rounded out the top four for the Leopards. With the score knotted at 168-168, it was Dom Lacerenza’s fifth best score of 46 that won Louisville the match by two strokes. The victory is the second time the Leopards have won via a tie-breaker this season (8/8 Vs. West Branch was the other).

The Louisville win was very much needed after two straight road losses at Canton South 179-172 and at Minerva 179-175. Dan Duplain had the top score against South of 43 and Lacerenza’s score of 41 was the Leopards top team score at Minerva.

A third straight loss would have eliminated Louisville from NBC Regular Season Title Contention and given Carrollton at least a share of the NBC Title for the second straight year. Instead the Leopards find themselves just one match out of first place with two left to play. The Warriors are now 10-5 overall and 9-3 in NBC play.

Louisville also got home victories prior to the two losses on the road. They defeated Alliance 171-196 and Salem 169-177. 41 Stroke performances earned both Leopards top scores in these contests with Fawver and Lacerenza achieving them respectively.

Louisville’s remaining golf schedule includes two road matches at Alliance on September 12 and at Marlington September 17. Carrollton will play host to Alliance and Minerva on the same dates respectively. The league champion or champions will be crowned on September 19 at the NBC Meet at Wilkshire.
