Boys Basketball Falls in Overtime at Canton South

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball team lost a 74-71 overtime heartbreaker to the host
Canton South Wildcats at Charles “Red” Ash Gymnasium Friday Night. With the loss, Louisville drops to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the NBC.
Drew Noble finished with 25 points and a game-high 20 rebounds to lead the Leopards. Noble also recorded 4 assists and 2 blocks. Chris Libertore also poured in 18 and Jake Adams finished with 10.
Louisville led at the end of each of the first three quarters and took a 44-42 lead into the fourth. Canton South rallied to take a 55-49 lead midway through the final period, However, the Leopards answered back with a 7-2 run to cut the Wildcats lead to 57-56.
Canton South would go ahead 59-56 before Louisville called timeout with 9.6 seconds at mid-court. With the game on the line, the Leopards found Jake Adams who hit his second regulation ending buzzer-beater of the season to send the game into overtime tied at 59-all.
In the extra period, Louisville pulled ahead 69-66 on a Jake Pukys three-pointer with under a minute to play. The Leopards would add two more points to build a 71-66 lead with half a minute to play.
Louisville was sitting pretty, but the game slipped away in just a span of 9.8 seconds. Canton South’s Malik Campbell made a three-pointer with 24.3 seconds left to cut the Wildcat deficit to 71-69. He then recorded a steal and scored a lay-in to tie the game at 71-71 with 14.5 seconds left. In the process, Campbell was fouled and he converted from the charity line to put the Wildcats up 72-71.
The Leopards failed to score on their next possession and Austin Miles hit two free throws on the other end for the Wildcats. Down 74-71 with 3.5 seconds left, Louisville did not score on their last gasp as Canton South avenged their only NBC losses from last season.
Campbell finished with a game-high 36 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals to lead the Wildcats. Jake Daniska also hit 4 three-pointers & finished with 19 and Miles also had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. With the win, Canton South moves ahead of Louisville for second place in the NBC Standings with an overall record of 8-4 and an NBC record of 5-1.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Carrollton Warriors on Tuesday, January 12. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM.
