Louisville Pitching Hampers Hiland in Scrimmage Opener 5-1 – Baseball
Louisville 5, Berlin Hiland 1
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team downed the visiting Berlin Hiland Hawks 5-1 Monday Evening in their opening scrimmage at the Field of Dreams.
Five different Leopards pitchers combined to hold the Hawks to just 1 run on 3 hits while fanning 10. Starter Jordan Shearer pitched 2 innings, gave up just 1 hit, and struck out 4 in a scoreless effort. Eddie Budinski followed with two more scoreless innings of work and struck out 2. Dillon English, Bryce Zuppe, and Cam Lingle also each worked an inning in relief without surrendering an earned run. Lingle and Zuppe also struck out a pair each.
Louisville broke the ice with a 4-spot in the third inning. Zuppe singled to lead off the frame and later scored on a passed ball. Caleb Prasco then drove in Davis Burick to make it 2-0. Next Jack Davis scored on a wild pitch. Then Prasco came home via a Dillon Rebuck RBI single to left field to put the Leopards ahead 4-0.
Louisville padded their advantage in the bottom of the fifth with an additional run. Burick opened the inning with an infield single and advanced to second base on an error. Davis grounded out advancing Burick to third with 1 out. Two batters later, Broc Pickens drove in Burick.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Perry to take on the Panthers in a scrimmage on Tuesday, March 20 at 5:00 PM. JV and Freshman will be at home against Perry for scrimmages at the same time.

The Leopards JV opened up the preseason with a 9-4 home victory over the Hawks.
Broc Pickens went 1-for-1 with a pair of RBIs to lead Louisville. Tyler Jackson also drove in a pair of runs and Logan Vanicek also recorded an RBI. Andrew Figler, Christian Marcelli, and Pickens had the only hits for the Leopards.
Louisville scored 9 runs on just 3 hits taking advantage of 4 Hiland errors and 8 walks.
Jake Bevere pitched 2 scoreless innings and struck out 1 as the starter for the Leopards. Marcelli also struck out 3 in relief for Louisville.
