Baseball Squeezes Out Win Against Carrollton 3-2
Louisville 3, Carrollton 2
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team edged the visiting Carrollton Warriors 3-2 Friday Evening
at the Field of Dreams. With the victory, Louisville improves to 9-11 overall and 6-4 in the NBC.
Starter Paul Howard (2-2) pitched a complete game, gave up 2 runs on just 4 hits, and struck out 5 to lead the Leopards. Howard surrendered both runs in the opening inning in which he gave up 3 hits. He allowed just 1 hit the rest of the way and pitched four 1-2-3 innings. At one point in the contest he sat down 11 straight Warriors batters.
Nick Harsh went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Louisville. In the third inning he singled home Dalton Deckerd to chop the Carrollton lead in half 2-1..
Later on, Deckerd would lead off the Leopards fifth inning by reaching base via error. Brock Haren in an attempt to sacrifice Haren to second, would also get on via an overthrow. This setup runners on second and third with no outs.
Reis Rankin laid down a bunt to squeeze the sprinting Deckerd home on the next pitch. Harsh would do the same on the pitch after that to score Haren giving Louisville a 3-2 lead.
The Warriors would threaten in the seventh inning with runners on first & second and only 1 out. However, in another two pitch sequence the threat was vanquished. At catcher, Deckerd rocketed a throw to Shortstop Stephen Kerzan who applied the tag to pick off the runner at second base. The next pitch was a drive to right field that a sprinting Rankin gloved to end the game.
In a losing effort, Carrollton pitcher Michael Howell pitched a complete game, gave up just 1 earned run on 5 hits, and struck out 3. Bryce Ferrell also cracked the 2-run single scoring Kory host & Brock Albaugh in the opening frame for the Warriors.
Louisville has now downed Carrollton in 5 straight meetings. They have also defeated the Warriors at home every year since 2008.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to Jackson to take on the Polar Bears on Monday, May 2. JV will play at 5:00 PM and Varsity will play at 7:00 PM. Freshman’s next game is at Green on Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 PM.
