Baseball Rallies to Down Holland Springfield

Stephen Kerzan’s walk-off sacrifice fly to right field in the seventh lifted the Louisville Leopards past the visiting Holland Springfield Blue Devils 6-5 Saturday. With the victory, Louisville improves to 2-5 on the season.

Reis Rankin led the Leopards by batting 2-for-3 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. His 2-run triple Beatty's Sports Louisville Leopards Baseball Shirt 2015ignited a fifth inning rally that saw Louisville score four runs in taking a 5-4 advantage. Rankin also used his speed to record an infield single in the seventh and he eventually slid home for the game winning score in the same frame.

Tyler Adams also smacked a pair of doubles and scored twice. He came home in the first inning via the bat of Jake Adams and also scored the go-ahead run for Louisville in the fifth. Marco Buccasso and Brody Hahn also each found the plate for the Leps in the same inning.

The Blue Devils knotted the game at 5-5 via an error in the top of the sixth, but failed to keep the Leopards scoreless in the last of the seventh. Springfield was led by Johnson who hit 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Louisville pitchers did not give up a single earned run on the day. Starting Pitcher Alex Hewitt pitched the first 6 innings, surrendered just 4 hits, and struck out 4. Adam Nyland pitched the final frame, retired the side in order, and picked up his first win of the year.

The Louisville Leopards swept the visiting Akron Springfield Spartans 15-4 in 5 innings during the first game and 16-11 in the second contest Saturday. With the victories, Louisville is now 5-3 on the year.

In the first game, BJ Singer went 2-for-2 with a double, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs scored to lead the Leopards. Dylan Walczak also batted 3-for-4 at the plate & scored 3 runs and lead-off batter Brandon Wahl made it home 4 times. On the mound, Drew Doerschuk worked 2 hitless innings in striking out 5 and Trent Degenhard also started the game & struck out 4.

In the second game, Singer continued his tear batting 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Dylan English also pounded out 4 hits & scored 3 runs, Walczak had 3 hits & drove home a pair, and both Jack Davis & Wahl found the plate 3 times each. The Leopards broke a 9-9 tie by exploding for seven runs in the fifth.

The Spartans were led by Zink who drove in 7 runs in the two games and Pollock who scored 4 runs on the afternoon.
