Baseball Jumps on Lake Early, Rolls to 8-5 Win

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball team downed the host Lake Blue Streaks 8-5 on a cold & windy Monday evening. With the win, Louisville is now 11-7 on the season.

The Leopards scored five runs in the top of the first inning and never surrendered their advantage. Tyler Adams led Louisville by batting 2-for-4 with a run, a double, and a 2-run single. Joe Crank also had 2 hits, Alex Hewitt drove in a pair of runs, and both Jake Adams & Dalton Deckerd recorded RBIs.

On the mound, Trevor Burk made his Varsity debut by pitching 6 strong innings and striking out 2 to earn the victory. Burk was aided by some excellent play in the field as the Leopards turned double plays in both the fourth & fifth innings and played errorless baseball throughout.

The Blue Streaks were led by D Maglione who finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. D Davis, P Patterson, and D Wharton also had 2 hits a piece for Lake who finished with 10 hits on the night.

The victory is the Leopards first over the Blue Streaks since 2008 after falling in the 3 previous meetings. It is also Louisville’s first win at Lake since they swept the Blue Streaks in a double header on April 21, 2007.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Salem Quakers on Tuesday, April 28 at 4:30 PM. JV will play at Salem during the same time and Freshman will travel to North Canton Hoover to take on the Vikings at 5:00 PM.

The Leopards JV Baseball team was edged by the visiting Blue Streaks 4-3 Monday. With the loss, Louisville is now 13-3 on the year.

Nathan Mongiardo batted 1-for-1 and recorded the only Louisville RBI of the game. Brendon Hoffman tallied the only other hit for the Leopards during the contest. Carson Davis also allowed just 3 hits and struck out 4 in five innings of work on the hill.

Chase Knoch led Lake by batting 2-for-2 with a double. Nate Champagne, Dawson Miller, and Matt Radtka all batted in runs for the Blue Streaks as well. On the hill, Joe McBride earned the victory after pitching the first 5 innings, giving up 0 earned runs on 1 hit, and striking out 2.
