Baseball Gets Redemption Against Marlington

After falling by mercy to the Dukes the day before, Louisville turned the tables by downing visiting Marlington 4-3 Wednesday Evening. With the win, the Leopards improve to 1-2 overall and an even 1-1 in NBC play.

Jake Adams cracked a 2-run single to center in the bottom of the fifth scoring both Marco Buccasso & Reis Rankin. The hit proved to be the game-winner as Louisville held Marlington scoreless in the final two innings.

On the mound, the Leopards Alex Hewitt pitched the first five innings, struck out 2, and earned the victory. Adam Nyland also pitched the final two innings and earned the save on a strike out looking.

Buccasso finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and Joe Crank recorded a sacrifice fly RBI for the Leopards other two runs.

Jake Begue had 2 hits and Tony Rupert drove in a run to lead the Dukes.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the GlenOak Golden Eagles in a Double Header on Saturday, April 4 beginning at 11:00 AM. JV & Freshman will be at GlenOak during the same time.

The JV rematch between Louisville and Marlington was much less lob-sided the second time around. However, the Leopards still edged the Dukes 6-4 in 8 innings to improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 against conference foes.

Corey White finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI’s including what proved to be the game-winning single in extra innings to lead Louisville. Nathan Mongiardo also drove in & scored a pair of runs, Issac Mathie provide an RBI single in the seventh for an insurance run, and Brendan Hoffman also scored twice.

Clay Danner and Andrew Rininger led Marlington with two hits each.

The Leopards Freshman rallied for three runs in the seventh to down the host Dukes 5-4 Wednesday Evening.

Jack Davis led off the top of the seventh inning with a homer to center. Two at-bats later Satchel Strickmaker doubled home Gavin VanZant to tie the game at 4-4. Strickmaker would eventually score via an error on a ball hit to center by Brandon Wahl for the winning run.

On the mound, Dylan Walczak pitched the first four innings and struck out 6 and Trent Degenhard pitched the final three innings and struck out 5.
