The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team defeated the Newport Wildcats from Kentucky, 62-46 at the 5th Annual New Year’s Bash Showcase Saturday afternoon at Harvest Prep High School in Canal Winchester, Ohio. With the victory, the Leopards improve to 6-4 on the season.

Rogers Bounces Back with Game-High 18 to Earn MVP

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdAfter being held scoreless at Hoban, Cohen Rogers scored 9 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead Louisville to its third showcase win of the season. He also hit a three-pointer in each of the first two quarters as Louisville pounced on the Wildcats early, leading 13-8 at the end of the first and 33-18 by halftime.

Rogers also recorded 3 steals and dished out 2 assists. He was presented with a keepsake and recognized as the team’s MVP after the game. This is Rogers’ second team MVP award at a showcase this season. He claimed the same honor at the Todd Kalivoda Holiday Showcase during the Leopards’ 66-44 win at Toronto.


Sanders Finishes in Double Figures with 10 for Louisville

West Main Vet Clinic AdBrandon Sanders also reached double figures with 10 points, 2 steals, and game-highs of 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block. He also dropped in 8 points in the opening half.

Nine different Louisville players scored in the contest. Drake Wilson scored 9, Cayden Balcomb 8, and Colton Dougherty 7. Wilson contributed 3 assists and 3 rebounds, while Dougherty added 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Balcomb also had a steal on defense.

Gabe Stoffer and Luke Boldon each hit a three-pointer. Stoffer would finish with 4 points and 2 assists.

Rounding out Louisville’s fourth-quarter scoring were Noah Ickes Noah Ickes with a basket and Colten Norris who split a pair of free throws. Both players registered a steal and Norris also pulled down 3 rebounds.

After building a 15-point halftime lead, Louisville outscored Newport 10-9 in the third quarter and played an even 19-19 fourth quarter to roll to their second-most convincing win of the season.


Lowe Scores Team-High 10 to Lead Newport

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdAmontae Lowe led Newport with a team-high 10 points, a game-high 4 assists, and a team-best 2 steals. He scored 7 points in the second quarter alone. Demarco Jackson also scored 6 of his 9 points in the fourth quarter.

Sean Hurry and Irvan Nichols added 8 points each. Hurry pulled down a team-leading 5 rebounds and dished out 2 assists. Nichols had 3 rebounds and scored 7 of his points in the third quarter alone.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats were Cayson Klink with 5, Ryan Woods with 4, and Amen Petty with 2 points and 3 rebounds.

Newport drops to 7-4 on the season with the loss.
