Louisville Falls to Brunswick 57-45 at Titans Hoops Holiday Showcase – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the Brunswick Blue Devils, 57-45, Tuesday afternoon at Berea-Midpark High School as part of the Titans Hoops Holiday Showcase. With the loss, Louisville suffered its third consecutive defeat and fell to 4-8 on the season.

Baker Named Louisville MVP with Game-High 15
Maggie Baker scored 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards. She knocked down3 of Louisville’s 5 three-pointers in the game. Baker also secured a game-high 7 rebounds, had a team-best 2 steals, and also dished out 2 assists.
Baker was named Team MVP and was honored at midcourt with Brunswick’s MVP Adaya Collenette after the game.
Tillett Finishes with 13 After Strong Fourth Quarter
Ella Tillett scored 8 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Leopards climbed back within striking distance. Louisville trailed by as many as 21 points after halftime, but used an 11-0 run to trim the deficit to 38-27 by the end of the third quarter. The Leopards began the final period on a 9-3 run capping the run with a Tillett layup that cut the Blue Devil lead to 41-36 with 5:11 remaining.
Tillett also matched Baker with a game-leading 7 rebounds and tallied 2 assists.
Mikayla Salmons poured in 9 points and Makayla Tanner added 8 to round out the Louisville scoring. Salmons was 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the second half, including a perfect 4-of-4 in the final minutes of the game. Salmons also recorded 5 rebounds and matched Mabel Kiko with a team-high 3 assists. Tanner buried a pair of three-pointers in the second half and secured 4 defensive boards. Kiko had 3 rebounds and finished with the Leopards’ lone block in the game.
Collenette Named Brunswick MVP with Game-High 24
Collenette made 2 three-pointers and scored 18 of her game-high 24 points in the first half to lead the Blue Devils. She also had a team-high 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists.
Brunswick took a 16-4 lead at the end of one, increased their advantage to 29-11 by halftime, and built their largest lead of the game at 35-14 in the third quarter. Louisville crept back into the game, but Brunswick went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Collenette sunk four of those free throws in the final stanza.
Bri Sigmund made 5 of the Blue Devils’ 11 three-pointers and finished with 15 points, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. Aubrey Hayes also made a pair of three-pointers and scored 8 points to go along with 3 assists. Cam Sheets and Aaliyah Wilson each hit a three-pointer and tacked on 5 points each.
Amya Fluellen had 4 steals on defense to go along with 5 rebounds. Vanity Kersey also tallied 3 blocks and 2 boards.
This was the first-ever meeting between the Leopards and Blue Devils in girls basketball. Brunswick is now 5-5 on the season with the win.
