Baker Pours in Team-High 18 to Lead Louisville
Maggie Baker scored a team-high 18 points, had a team-best 5 steals, and delivered 4 assists to lead the Lady Leopards. Baker scored on two fast breaks to start the game and ended her evening by popping her second three-pointer to get Louisville to within 50-47 with 1:25 remaining.
The play was setup by a turnover forced by Mikayla Salmons at mid-court. With a Warren JFK player trying to pass the ball from the ground, Salmons launched in to take the ball away and in the process jarred it free into the hands of Louisville’s Mabel Kiko. She passed to Ella Tillett, who found Baker on the right wing for three.
Tillett Scores 10 and Registers 6 Blocks
Tillett scored in every quarter and reached double figures with 10 points. Tillett also registered 6 blocks, one off her record of 7 set last year at Austintown Fitch. She also secured 3 rebounds and tallied 2 assists.
While Tillett led the defense underneath, the Leopards finished with 13 steals as a team. Salmons finished with 4 steals to go along with 3 assists. Kiko had the most rounded stat line of the night with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and a block. Bailey Cole also recorded a steal to go along with 2 points.
The Leopards trailed by as many as eight in the opening period before Salmons hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 19-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles began the second quarter on a 10-0 run to take their largest lead of the contest at 29-14. Back-to-back buckets by Baker via Kiko assists, followed by a Baker to Tillett back-door basket shrunk the margin to 29-21 at the half.
Louisville chipped away in the second half getting to within two points twice on Baker baskets. Bailey Cole provided the assist on the second basket that cut the disadvantage to 33-31.
