The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the Westlake Demons 46-31 on Monday afternoon during the MLK Invitational at Richmond Heights High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 5-10 on the season.

Barwick Scores Game High 17 for Leopards

Courtney Barwick scored 9 of her game high 17 points in the first half to lead the Lady Leopards. Barwick opened the scoring with a three-pointer just 2:21 into the game. Karis Miglich followed with a pair of free throws, and Maggie Baker added a steal and score to give Louisville an early 7-0 advantage.

Westlake responded with their first of nine three-pointers, but Mabel Kiko answered on the next possession with a putback to extend Louisville’s lead to 9-3.

In the final minute of the opening quarter, Miglich hit the Leopards’ only other three-pointer of the contest, putting Louisville ahead 12-8 at the end of the first quarter. Miglich finished with the team’s second-highest point total at 5.

Other scorers for the Lady Leopards included Ella Tillett with 3 points, and both Ezela Manko and Mabel Kiko added 2 points each.


Henton and Taylor Lead Demons from Deep

Romeo's Pizza Louisville, Ohio AdWestlake’s Ella Henton scored a team-high 14 points, all in the first three quarters, while Sophie Taylor contributed 13 points, scoring exclusively in the final three periods. Both players hit four three-pointers, leading a sharp-shooting Demons team that relied on long-range scoring to rally for a convincing victory.

Westalke outscored Louisville 14-8 in the second quarter, taking a narrow 22-20 lead into halftime. The teams remained locked in a 28-28 tie late into the third quarter before Westlake unleashed a decisive 13-0 run, pulling ahead 41-28 early in the fourth.

Westlake effectively controlled the tempo in the final quarter, using clock management to stymie any Louisville comeback attempt. The Demons closed out the game by making 6 of 10 free throws, eventually extending their lead to a game-high 15 points by the final buzzer.

Additional scorers for the Demons included Liana Ostrowski with 8 points, Ella Stanton with 6, Husneya Najjar with 3, and Bella Whittaker with 2.

The Demons are the 87th unique opponent that the Lady Leopards have faced in their history. Westlake is also the 6th of 8 new opponents Louisville has taken on this season. The Lady Leopards are now 1-5 against first-time opponents this year and 0-2 in neutral-site games.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to take on the GlenOak Golden Eagles on Wednesday, January 22. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow at 7:00 PM from GlenOak High School.
