Lady Leopards Drop Low-Scoring Contest at Waynedale 34-28 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Waynedale Golden Bears 34-28 Saturday Afternoon at Waynedale High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 4-7 at the midway point of the regular season.

Barwick Scores Game High 16 to Lead Leopards
Courtney Barwick scored 11 of her game high 16 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards. She hit a three-pointer and scored 7 points in the third quarter alone. The third would prove to be the only quarter in which Louisville outscored Waynedale. Barwick now sits a 995 career points.
Mabel Kiko also scored all 4 of her points in the second half and Ezela Manko made Louisville’s only other three-pointer in the opening quarter. Maggie Baker also tallied 3 and Karis Miglich tacked on 2 to round out the Leopard scoring.
Clever Scores Team High 13 to Lead Golden Bears
Natalie Clever hit 3 three-pointers and scored all of her team high 13 points in the first half to lead the Golden Bears. Waynedale doubled up Louisville 12-6 in the first quarter and maintained that same advantage heading into the half up 19-13.
The scoring was more spread out in the second half for the Golden Bears. Clever did not score, but six different Waynedale players did. They were led by Kylie Geiser who scored all 4 of her points on a pair of buckets in the fourth quarter. The Golden Bears led 26-22 heading into the fourth and never surrendered their lead the rest of the way.
Bella Parry was the team’s second high scorer with 5. Madelynn Baney, Brooke Compston, and Madi Miller all registered 3 points each. Kayla Miller also scored 2 and Audrey Troyer split a pair of free throws in the fourth quarter to round out the Waynedale scoring.
The win snaps the Golden Bear’s 2-game skid as they improve to 6-7 on the season.
This was the first ever meeting between Louisville and Waynedale in girls basketball.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to take on the North Canton Hoover Vikings on Wednesday, January 8. JV will begin at 6:00 PM with varsity following around 6:45 PM from the Hoover High School.
