West Branch 26, Louisville 21

The West Branch Warriors clinched a share of the NBC by defeating the host Louisville Leopards 26-21 back on October 28, 1994.

The turning point of the contest came in the third quarter when the Leopards had a 1st-and-Goal on the Warriors 7. Runningback Dan Wilson was dropped for a 6 yard loss, 2 incompletions followed, and an 8 yard gain on fourth down left them 5 yards short of the endzone.

West Branch responded with an 11 play, 95 yard drive that ended with a 12 yard touchdown pass Beatty's Sports Leopard Skin Grey Hoodiefrom Quarterback Jeff Morris to Jeff Grove. The touchdown gave the Warriors a 19-14 lead heading into the final period.

The Leopards went three-and-out on their next drive and the Warriors came right back with a 5 play, 48 yard scoring drive. Morris’s third touchdown pass of the game to Chris Tucker came from 6 yards away and put West Branch ahead 26-14. Morris finished 12 of 20 for 159 yards on the evening.

To top off their ill-fortune, Louisville lost their top rusher in Wilson due to an injury. Wilson finished with 53 yards on 18 attempts and scored on a 3 yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The Leopards made things interesting when Quarterback Ryan Crislip scored on a 4 yard touchdown with 1:14 left in the contest to cut the deficit to 26-21. Crislip would finish with 18 carries for 102 yards and also complete 9 of 22 passes for 153 yards.

Unfortunately that is all the closer Louisville would get as bundles of West Branch fans stormed the field to celebrate with their eventual state champion team. The Leopards had ruined the Warriors chance at a perfect season the last two years, but 1994 was the year for the Green & White.

The first two scores in the contest came on a 2 yard run by Jamie Elkins for Louisville and a Morris to Bernie Berger 19 yard pass for West Branch. Jeremy Stephens also scored from a yard out before halftime for the Warriors.
