The Louisville Leopards Freshman Football Team fell to the visiting Massillon Tigers 34-6 Thursday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the loss, Louisville falls to 1-2 on the season.

Galbraith Puts the Leopards on the Board

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdLeopards Runningback Jacob Galbraith ran left for a 10 yard touchdown to break up the Massillon shutout with 3:04 to go in the fourth quarter. The rushing touchdown capped off Louisville’s best drive of the evening, an 11 play, 77 yard march that encompassed 6:59 of game clock.

The Leopards took over on their own 23 yard line after Tiger kicker Chayce Crable hit the bottom of the crossbar on a 40 yard field goal attempt. With the clock running due to the mercy rule, Louisville started from their own 23 with 1:03 to go in the third quarter.

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Leopards converted a pair of fourth downs in their own territory to keep their scoring drive alive. From their own 32, quarterback Kolton Loy ran up the gut to convert a 4th-and-1. The Massillon defense stormed into the backfield two plays later for a loss via Conner Larkin and Ethin Kemp to setup 3rd-and-long. On 4th-and-14 from the LHS 29, Loy found a gap to his right and scampered 24 yards across midfield to the Tiger 47 yard line.

Loy then hit wide receiver Tyler Paumier on a bubble screen to the right for a gain of 8 to the WHS 39. Galbraith ran to his left on the next play paved by left guard Jason Buydos and the downfield blocking of wide receiver Aiden Volkert for a 29 yard gain to the Massillon 10 yard line. The rush would go down as Louisville’s longest play of the game.

Galbraith broke through a tackle in the backfield on the next play and received another block from Volkert that cleared his path to the paydirt. The extra point sailed wide right leaving the score at 34-6 in favor of the Tigers.

Dougherty Records a Pair of 1st Quarter Sacks

Re-Elect Corey Street Louisville City Council AdThe Leopards defense came flying out of the game in holding Massillon to a three-and-out on their first possession. Galbraith, out of his linebacker position, had a tackle for a loss on second down and linebacker Camden Dougherty recorded a sack for Louisville on third down.

The Tigers threatened later on in the quarter at the Leopards 30 before Dougherty broke loose again for another sack to push them back.

Galbraith would also finish with 1.5 sacks for the game and linebacker Kason Graybill would register 0.5 sacks and a tackle for a loss.

Massillon Takes 14-0 Lead on Pair of Takeways

Despite the early efforts by the Louisville defense, two Leopard mistakes deep in their own territory would lead to a pair of Massillon touchdowns.

After a 58 yard punt by Crable that rolled out of bounds at the 10 yard line, Louisville fumbled on the first play from scrimmage. Michael Looney pounced on it for the Tigers at the LHS 6 yard line. Two plays later, runningback Tyler Hackenbracht scored from 3 yards out to put Massillon on the board.

The Leopards were forced to punt on their next possession and it ended in disaster. The boot hit another Louisville player and deflected backward toward the endzone. Mylen Lenix scooped up the spinning spheroid at the two yard line and lunged forward for another Massillon touchdown to put them in front 14-0.

Tigers Build 34-0 Halftime Lead

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe route continued in the second quarter. After a pair of Tiger penalties pushed them into a 1st-and-30, Massillon went for broke. Quarterback Vito McConnell rolled to his left and found Camden Lynch open 40 yards down field. Lynch made the grab, broke a tackle, and ran the rest of the way for a 78 yard touchdown reception to make it 21-0.

Massillon was setup on the Louisville 37 yard line to start their next drive after Barylyn Toles returned a punt 23 yards. Eight plays later, Hackenbracht ran right 6 yards behind a Nolan Davenport block for his second rushing touchdown of the contest. Crable’s extra point was good for the fourth time on the day to give the Tigers a 28-0 advantage with 2:59 to play.

On the second play of the Leopards next drive, Toles intercepted a pass near the sideline and stayed in bounds after breaking off a tackle. He then cut back right behind a block from JaMeir Gamble to complete a 38 yard pick six that put Massillon in front 34-0.

The Tigers defense shutdown the Leopards offense until their 77 yard fourth quarter scoring drive. Massillon finished with four tackles for a loss as a team. Ransom Els recorded a 5 yard TFL when the Louisville ran on 4th-and-1 from their own 44 on the opening drive of the second half. JaMeir Gamble, Maxwell Tanner, and Ricardo Wells were also involved on tackles in the backfield not previously mentioned.
