Volleyball Earns 1st Win Over North Canton Hoover Since 2009

Louisville 16-25-25-25, North Canton 25-13-19-21

The Louisville Lady Leopards defeated the host North Canton Hoover Vikings 16-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-21 in the season opener at Hoover High School Saturday. The victory is the Leopards first over the Vikings since 2009 when they won at HHS 25-20, 25-17, 25-27, 13-25, 15-13.

Grace Jackson finished with 24 digs on defense and was also Louisville’s top server with 15 points and 1 Ace. Jackson picked up most of her points in the second set. The Vikings took a 2-0 advantage before the Leopards forced a side out. Under the serving of Jackson, Louisville won 10 consecutive points to take an 11-2 lead. The Leopards would win the set 25-13 to knot the match at 1-1.

In the third set, Louisville went on a 5-0 run to turn a 13-8 Hoover lead into a tie game at 13-13. After some back-and-forth the Leopards won 6 of the final 8 points to take the set and a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth and final set, Louisville again erased an early deficit. After trailing 10-6, they rallied to knot Beatty's Property of Louisville Leopards Shirt 2015the game at 13-13. The Vikings went back up 15-14, before the Leopards won 5 of the next 6 points to take a 19-16 lead. Three times during the run the combination of Jackson to Paige Haren to Brynn Guist produced a kill. Haren would finish with a team-high 49 assists and Guist would end the day with a team-high 13 kills.

Hoover would get no closer. On the match point, Haren setup Georgia Kiko who batted the ball inbounds to the back left side of the square to clinch the win. Kiko was also instrumental on the defensive side of the ball as well as she finished with a team-leading 5 blocks.

The Lady Leopards quietly celebrated on the court after they high-fived the Lady Vikings good game. However, in the locker room it was pandemonium.

JV: Louisville 25-24-25, North Canton Hoover 20-26-23

Freshman: Louisville 25-25, North Canton Hoover 17-14

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Lake Blue Streaks on Thursday, August 27. Freshman will begin at 4:30 PM, JV will follow around 5:30 PM, and Varsity will conclude starting at 6:30 PM.
