Volleyball: Dukes Bark, Leopards Roar Back in NBC Tilt

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Volleyball team rallied to down the host Marlington Dukes 18-25, 25-12, JennCanAd19-25, 25-15, 15-10. With the victory, Louisville improves to 17-2 overall and takes complete command of the NBC with an 11-0 conference record.

Emma Vacha led the Leopards with 15 points & 4 aces serving on offense and also finished with a team-high 15 digs on defense. Brynn Guist and Georgia Kiko also finished with 7 blocks each to lead the Louisville defense.

Kayla Cole threw down a team-high 16 kills to propel the Leopards offense. Paige Haren also setup the scoring with a team leading 33 assists.

Playing in front of a hostile Marlington crowd in the Duke Pound, Louisville dropped the opening set 25-Louisville Ohio Leopards Athletics Dark Navy Blue Shirt Fall 2016 - Beatty's Sports19 to the host Dukes. It was the Leopards first set loss of the season in conference play. They had previously been 30-0 in set points during their 10 sweeps of NBC opponents.

Louisville wasted no time in evening things out. The Lady Leopards scored the first 7 points of the second set before rolling to a 25-12 game two win to tie the match at 1-1.

Louisville and Marlington continued to battle it out in the third set. The Dukes would go on to score 4 of the 5 final points in the set to win 25-19 and take a stunning 2-1 set lead over the defending NBC Champion Leopards.

Louisville proved too strong in the end as they took the final two sets to win the match. The Leopards Leopard Nation $5 Challengeearned a double digit victory in the fourth set 25-15. In the fifth set, they pounced on the Dukes 4-1 before pulling ahead 10-4. Louisville would prevail 15-10 over Marlington in the final set to put them in the driver’s seat in the NBC Standings.

This is the Leopards first sweep of the Dukes since 2013 and the series is now an even 3-3 since that season. Louisville has never won league titles in back-to-to-back seasons. They will have a  chance to do so Thursday when they host Minerva.

JV: Louisville 2, Marlington 0

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Minerva Lions on Thursday, October 6 in their Volley for the Cure Match. JV will begin at 5:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 6:00 PM.
